Shenzhen Dachan Bay Container Terminal will open on December 18th

The first phase of the Shenzhen Dachan Bay Container Terminal project, which has been in preparation for four years, is tentatively scheduled to open on December 18th this year. The operating Dachan Bay Modern Port Development Co., Ltd. has appointed a foreigner named Mailler as the general manager and officially invited international shipping companies to set sail at the terminal.

According to local shipping companies, the major shareholder of the terminal, Modern Container Terminal (MTL), has recently proactively contacted shipping companies to inquire about the possibility of opening routes and who is willing to send a ship to serve as the first "VIP ship" on the first day of port opening. Several shipping companies have received invitation calls from MTL, and some responsible persons believe that the Shenxi Port Area is mainly focused on the European route. As a service contract has already been signed with the port terminal, they dare not make a rash statement and need to discuss further. Some airlines also claim that there is a period of adjustment between the celebration of port opening and the actual operation of the terminal. Given the current hot market situation in Europe, the loading and unloading of heavy containers should take into account actual economic benefits and efficiency. To avoid mistakes, unloading empty containers may be considered, but who will bear the cost must be studied.

Initial investment of 7.1 billion RMB

The initial investment amount for Dachan Bay Container Terminal is 7.1 billion yuan, with four berths and a starting point of 2 million container throughput. The infrastructure construction has already been completed, and the prototype and outline of the dock have emerged. Currently, it has entered the tense stage of dock construction. The first phase of two berths with a shoreline of 810 meters has been formed, and the logistics land is 600 meters. The water depth at the forefront is 15.5 meters, which is enough for 10000 container ships to dock. It is known that the fourteen story administrative building and control center have been topped out and are expected to be completed soon for renovation and equipment installation.

According to people familiar with port construction, Dachan Bay Container Terminal belongs to a type of port that is open to foreign ships and implements a one customs and three inspection operation mode. Opening the port requires applying for and handling complex procedures and procedures from the central and local governments, which takes time.

There are only over five months left until the official opening of the terminal. It is known that the first batch of large-scale loading and unloading equipment will be in place in August and September, and the terminal requires at least 300 people to work. The recruitment, training, and operation of employees are proceeding step by step.

Port charges become the focus of attention

Local airlines have stated that they are not concerned about the operation and loading/unloading of the port, but are more concerned about the future fees and related regulations of the port. According to common sense, the opening of a new terminal should have a certain degree of attractiveness in terms of fees in order to compete for cargo sources. In addition, the location of Dachan Bay Container Terminal is in direct competition with Shekou and Kaifeng Container Terminals. How to establish their own foothold and the attitude of shipping merchants in opening routes are all issues that terminal merchants will face in the future.

Some shipping companies also believe that, in terms of the opening time of Dachan Bay Port, all ports operating international routes on both sides of the Pearl River Delta, including Hong Kong, except for Zhuhai Port, were on the same track in terms of strength and scale in 2008. There is no longer any difference in size or strength, and there is only one source of cargo hinterland.
