Port throughput increased by 2 billion tons in 2010

On July 7th, Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of Transport of China, said at the National Water Transport Engineering Technology Innovation Conference that the total throughput capacity of China's coastal ports will increase by 2 billion tons by 2010; The capacity of China's inland waterways will increase by about 40% compared to 2005, and will double by 2020 compared to 2010.

Xu Zuyuan stated that during the 11th Five Year Plan period, the central government will raise at least 40 billion yuan in funds, with a focus on the construction of projects such as inland and coastal waterways, and water support and security systems. Among them, the investment for inland waterway transportation will exceed 20 billion yuan. This is the largest investment scale in the history of Chinese water transportation.

In order to speed up the construction of water transport infrastructure, the State Council has successively approved such water transport plans as the National Coastal Port Layout Plan, the National Inland Waterway and Port Layout Plan, the National Water Traffic Safety Supervision and Rescue System Layout Plan, the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and Bohai Bay Coastal Port Construction Plan. The Ministry of Communications has formulated the Outline of Modern Highway and Waterway Traffic Planning in the Yangtze River Delta and other plans, and jointly developed the Overall Promotion Plan for the Construction of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway during the 11th Five Year Plan with seven provinces and two cities along the river.

At present, China's transportation construction has reached a turning point, and water transportation, which used to be in a secondary position, will be placed in an important position in the next 20 years. With the development of resource-saving and environmentally friendly transportation industry, new requirements have been put forward for technological innovation: building and improving a comprehensive transportation system, and setting new goals for technological innovation; Building high-quality water transportation projects has raised technological innovation to a new level; The construction of ports and waterways under complex conditions poses new challenges to technological innovation.
