The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that starting from July, a new Two call in system will be implemented for ships that dock at both Busan North Port and New Port, exempting them from docking fees. By the end of this year, sea services between the two ports will officially be opened.
The Busan Port Authority pointed out that after the implementation of the new Two call in system, each ship docking at both North Port and New Port will save 640000 Korean won in entry and exit fees and 340000 Korean won in berthing fees (based on the 5000 ton class). If a sea vessel capable of carrying 150 to 200 20 foot containers suffers losses, the port authority will provide partial subsidies to private institutions. Although it is estimated that a sea freight ship capable of carrying 150 containers per year may incur a deficit of around 3.6 billion Korean won, it will be beneficial for the future development of Xingang.
The bureau pointed out that for two years starting from July, container ships that dock at both Busan North Port and New Port can be exempted from port entry and exit fees as well as North Port berthing fees. In addition, the scheduled ships will use barges connecting Beigang and Xingang. The port committee of the port will select the contractor responsible for the maritime scheduled ship business, which will be implemented from the end of this year until June 2009.
